PACKWOOD, IOWA -- A community is pulling together for two kids who need it the most.

Noah is a fifth-grader at Pekin Elementary School and was not expected to live more than five hours after he was born. He is now eleven years old and in need of a liver transplant. His parents pay over $800 in medical costs a month.

Reagan is a seventh-grader at Pekin who was born with heart problems. She had a heart transplant in January and is now recuperating in Iowa City. Reagan's medical expenses are covered, but the daily living expenses for her family are not.

The Pekin Church Women United is hosting a benefit to support Noah and Reagan this Saturday, February 9th at Pekin Community School from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. All the money raised will be given to the families to help with their financial burdens.

"We've had both Noah and Regan on our prayer lists for a while, but we felt it was time we stepped up and did something more," said Carla Nelson, one of the event's organizers. "They're wonderful children, I sub out here at the school off and on and I've had both of them - they're just sweet, sweet kids. Worked with them with Vacation Bible School. Their parents are just wonderful, humble, everyday folk who manage through every day knowing that their child could die. And we want to support these kids."

There will be carnival games, entertainment and live and silent auction. To donate items for the auction, you can contact Carla at 641-451-5153.

If you would like to send a monetary donation, send it to Pekin Church Women United at 361 S. 3rd St., Ollie, Iowa, 52576.
