KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- It was a little over 20 degrees Saturday morning, but that didn't stop nearly 100 people from participating in the 3rd annual Frostbite Frolic.

The 5K run and one mile walk was hosted by Truman State University's ROTC program.

A group of about 20 cadets in the senior class planned this run for the whole community.

Lt. Col. Steve Petersen, military science professor at Truman, said Saturday's 5K run was about a number of things.

"One, it's a great community event for the students at Truman and the greater community of Kirksville. It's fun for the families to get out and run a little bit," Petersen said.

Petersen also tells us the event helped the cadets.

"So it's a great experience for our cadets to learn and gain practical experience in leadership and project management. And that's what the ROTC program is all about leadership and management so its first right in with the curriculum in what we try to teach."

All pre-registered participants received a free T-shirt.
