OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Ottumwa is on the hunt for a new transit director and the city will be going through the interview process over the next several weeks.

As of now, there are about 30 qualified candidates from all over the country as well as from around the Wapello County area.

The city said the ideal candidate will have a strong ability to supervise staff and develop and implement a marketing program to increase ridership.

“Being familiar with the transit forms and applying for and receiving grant funds and also implementing the budget; those are the critical things,” said Joe Helfenberger, Ottumwa City Administrator.

Heflenberger said within a couple of months the new Ttansit director will officially be in the office. But who that person will be, we will just have to wait and see.
