IHCC Art Professor Mark McWhorter said Piranesi’s works features views of the city of Rome and because of the artist, we probably get the most complete view of what Rome was like at that time.

“Piranesi is one of the reasons why the neoclassical movement grew, which if you're not familiar with neoclassicism just look at Washington D.C., it's essentially a neoclassical city. The white house, all of the memorial buildings like the Washington Memorial -- well the Washington Memorial is Egyptian --  the Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, they are all based on Rome and Greece,” said McWhorter.”

The IHCC Art Gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and on Sundays from 4:30 to 9:00 p.m.
