FAIRFIELD, IOWA -- The Fairfield Parks and Recreation Center’s plan to add on to the existing Roosevelt Recreation Center, as well as building a new pool on Fillmore St. just outside of town is still going strong.

Parks and Recreation Director Derik Wulfekuhle said now that the holidays are over, the committee can move full speed ahead with the planning process. He added that they could break ground tomorrow if they had the funds.

The committee is currently out seeking donations and the goal is to still break ground in the spring. CBS 3.2 News promo banner

“Right now the facilities’ task force is in the midst of sending RTQ's, requests for qualifications, to construction managers. We'll give it a couple of weeks, we'll interview them and hopefully have a selection and we can move on with our planning,” said Wulfekuhle.

Wulfekuhle said there is not an exact number at the moment on how much money has been raised but he believes it to be somewhere around the two million mark.

He added that the committee is still hoping for a 2014 opening date of the new facilities.
