FAIRFIELD, IOWA -- Fairfield was chosen as a Blue Zones demonstration site back in October.

More planning is soon to come. The next step will take place January 23 and 24 when about a dozen representatives from Fairfield will be going to the Blue Zones Institute in Des Moines for a two-day session.

“And there we're going to look into all of the different community areas that we'll be focusing on which will be workforce, school, restaurants, grocery stores, individuals of all different components of the community that will be getting involved in the process of wellness and becoming a blue zone,” said Ed Malloy, Mayor of Fairfield.

Mayor Malloy said after the Blue Zones Institute, they’re going to have three community focus groups in February that will get feedback from residents about all the different areas.

In March, the committee will finish writing their blue print, and sometime in April, a full community plan will be complete.
