KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- A Kirksville man is sentenced to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to child molestation.

Daniel Coy, 45, entered a guilty plea to the class "B" felony on December 4.

The charges stemmed from an event that occurred on June 19 with a 13-year-old boy.

Adair County Prosecutor Matt Wilson asked for a ten year sentence with probation denied, while Coy's attorney requested he be placed directly into probation.

After Circuit Judge Russell Steele gave the seven year sentence, he placed Coy in the Sex Offender Assessment Unit, which means Coy could be placed on probation after just 120 days in prison.

Coy is still being held in the Adair County Detention Center until he is transferred to the Missouri Department of Corrections.
