KNOX COUNTY, MO. -- A Knox County man is now facing a murder charge in connection with the death of another Knox County man.

Glenn Head, 58, of rural Novelty, is charged with 2nd-degree murder and armed criminal action in the shooting death of William "Bill" Bacon, 67, also of rural Novelty.

The charges were filed Wednesday afternoon.

Head, a retired St. Louis police officer, is being held in the Adair County jail on $250,000 cash only bond.

According to court papers, Bacon had called the Knox County Sheriff's Office to his property in southwest Knox County Tuesday afternoon requesting assistance regarding a trespasser on his property.

When deputies arrived, they found Bacon on the ground suffering from a bullet wound to the chest.

Bacon was transported to Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville where he was pronounced dead in the emergency room.

Court documents state that Head told Knox County Sheriff Mike Kite and a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper at the scene that he had shot Bacon following an altercation.

The two men had reportedly been involved in an ongoing property dispute.

If convicted, Head could face 10 years to life in prison.
