KIRKSVILLE, MO -- A new Christmas tradition is coming to downtown Kirksville.

The Kirksville Kiwanis Club will be having its first-ever Christmas parade on Saturday, December 22 along Franklin Street.

Area businesses, organizations and elected officials will be walking in the parade, there will be lighted floats and Santa will be making an appearance.

Kiwanis members just want to spread holiday cheer to the community.

"We wanted to improve the Christmas experience in downtown Kirksville while trying to find ways to help the kids. I was watching 'A Christmas Story' and there was a scene with a Christmas parade, and I though that would be great to do this and give back to the community. So with that seed of an idea came the first Kirksville Kiwanis Christmas Parade," said Kirksville Kiwanis Club President Ashley Young.

The theme of the parade will be "Warm and Fuzzy." Instead of a monetary entry fee for the parade, the club is asking participants to donate children's winter gear for needy kids in the Kirksville community.

If you would like to participate in the parade, send an email to kirksvillekiwanis@gmail.com or call (660) 342-3890.
