OTTUMWA, IOWA -- The Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Program at Indian Hills Community College is collecting used wheelchairs, walkers, canes and crutches for the Joni and Friends Wheels for the World Project.

The equipment collected will be distributed to disabled people in third world countries that don’t have access to quality mobility equipment.

“And people have some of this equipment that maybe they used in the past or a relative used --  they don’t know what to do with it and nobody likes to throw things away that are still good so this is something you can do with it and feel good about it. This is really -- it's a great opportunity for this equipment that’s in decent condition to go to somebody who can really use it,” said Lori Kiellopf, Physical Therapy Assistant Program Instructor at IHCC.

If you have gently used equipment, you can bring it to IHCC’s Rural Health Education Building Wednesday between 3 and 6 p.m. If you can’t make it to the donation drop-off, arrangements can be made to pick up any equipment you have to donate.
