KIRKSVILLE, MO -- At the Rieger Armory in Kirksville, Adair County veterans organizations hosted a Veterans Day Ceremony Sunday morning.

The public, along with local veterans, gathered to remember and honor all those who have served in uniform.

The guest speaker was U.S. Air Force retired Lt. Col. Dave Hurt . Hurt talked about how serving his country changed his life and how veterans of past and present have fought to protect our country and keep its freedom alive today.

"How can I or any citizen of this country not owe those people...the veterans who had given their lives, whether physical or emotional because of those who have gone before us, we can continue to enjoy the freedoms our founding fathers set forth for us," Hurt said.

The service concluded with a moment of silence and a 21-gun salute for the fallen.

Afterward, coffee and cake was served as attendees mingled with veterans and thanked them for their service.
