KIRKSVILLE, MO -- In Kirksville, firefighters worked hard to keep a house fire under control.

According to Kirksville Fire Captain James Snyder, the fire erupted on East Dear Street a little after midnight early Saturday morning.

Neighbors said they heard what sounded like an explosion before they saw the flames.

Apparently a woman lives at the home but no one was home when the fire broke out.

Captain Snyder says that the fire is still under investigation, but it was most likely accidental.
