OTTUMWA, IOWA -- One of the biggest races in the Heartland was for Iowa House District 81 between Incumbent Democrat Mary Gaskill and newcomer Republican Blake Smith.

The people’s voices were heard and once again, Mary Gaskill will be serving as state representative for District 81.

Gaskill said she will be meeting with the people in her district and identifying what it is that she needs to do to help them be able to do their jobs as far as economic development is concerned.

“I think that's where, that's a really good focus because we need to be working together. I need to be able to pick up the phone and say what is it that you need, they're doing this, will this work here. And they need to be able to feel very comfortable with calling and say 'hey we need this, can you help us',” said St. Rep. Gaskill.

Gaskill said she is happy the election is over so that she can focus on what really matters.
