Sex conviction puts former deputy on wrong side of bars

KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- A former Heartland law enforcement officer could land on the other side of prison bars following his conviction on a sex related felony.
  
John Benn, 28, a former Lewis County deputy, has been found guilty by an Adair County jury on a charge of second degree statutory rape. The trial was held in Adair County on a change of venue from Lewis County.

Benn was found guilty of having consensual sex with a 15-year-old girl in 2009.
   
Benn is currently being held in the Adair County Jail awaiting sentencing.

He is scheduled to be sentenced December 17 in an Adair County courtroom.
