KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- It is a ceremony that has been around since 1919.

A.T. Still University held its annual Founder's Day event this week honoring the late Dr. Andrew Taylor Still, the founder of osteopathy.

Doctor Margaret Wilson, the dean of the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, said this event is a celebration of the osteopathic profession.

“We again thank the community and everyone who supports ATSU within the Kirksville community,” Wilson said. “We’re just very happy to be a part of this community and very grateful for what we've been able to do with our educational program here.”

And Thursday afternoon, the university held a graveside ceremony at Heritage Hall inside the Tinning Education Center.

It was held inside because it was raining.

A.T. Still died on December 12, 1917, and a floral wreath was placed on his statue as part of Thursday’s ceremony.

It was decided that a graveside ceremony would be held every year to honor A.T. Still.

The Still family plot at Forrest-Llewellyn Cemetery in Kirksville was restored in the summer of 2011 and 2012.
