OTTUMWA, IOWA -- A southeast Iowa man took a fatal fall off a Heartland bridge.

Just before 11 a.m. Thursday, Ottumwa police received a report of a body under the railroad bridge located east of Quincy Avenue in Ottumwa.

Some know it as the Turkey Island Bridge.

Responding officers located the body of David Jerome Pettyjohn, 52, of Ottumwa.

He had been reported missing Wednesday evening.

Police said their preliminary investigation indicates Pettyjohn's death was the result of an accidental fall.

His body has been taken to the State Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.
