OTTUMWA, IOWA -- It’s called Bravo Wapello County. It is made up of the Ottumwa Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, Wapello County Board of Supervisors and the American Gothic House.

The purpose is to better promote the cultural arts, historical and tourism organizations in the area such as the Ottumwa Naval Station and the American Gothic House.

Starting next month, one way Bravo Wapello County is going to do this is by sending out periodic e-newsletters with various cultural events going on in the community.

“Going to initiate a passport program, aimed at kids that allow them and inspire them to go to some of those different activities and attractions, get them to sample the symphony for the first time or go to the conservation boards -- one of their activities as well. And at the end of the day make people much more aware and appreciative of the area cultural organizations,” said Mark Eckman, Ottumwa Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Eckman said he hopes this will help attract more people to all of the great cultural events the area has to offer.

Bravo Wapello County, along with invited area cultural organizations, will be meeting at the Hotel Ottumwa Wednesday evening to discuss the group’s next steps.
