KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Moving forward to the future: that was the new business talked about at one Kirksville meeting.

At Tuesday afternoon's Airport and Transportation Commission meeting, members discussed the proposed new 5 Year Transportation Sales Tax Plan.

The plan's main focus for 2013 and 2014 is to allocate funds for continued maintenance of city streets, including surface treatment and pavement overlay.

The plan has already gone through initial review, and now the city council has to approve the final plan.

"The council has looked over the initial plan. We are working out the detail. They will be discussed with the city manager and finance director next week. Then it will be given to the council for detailed review the fifth of November," said Kirksville Public Works Director John Buckwalter.

Old business that was discussed at today's meeting was the success of the Cape Air Air Show last month and the final plans for the 2012 Street Improvement Program before the winter months.

The commission's next meeting is set for November 6.
