CENTERVILLE, IOWA -- The weather was sunny and picture perfect to go out for some family fun and enjoy some yummy pancakes at the annual Pancake Days Festival in Centerville Saturday.
This is the 64th year the Centerville Chamber of Commerce held this fun event for the town.
"It started off in 1949 as a way for businesses to say Thank You to their customers who shopped in their stores. It's now a tradition," said Pancake Days Chair Joyce Bieber.
This year's theme was "Pull Up A Chair and Enjoy The Show" as lawn chairs surrounded the square as about 30,000 people from all over enjoyed some live music, a children’s carnival, the parade and of course...all the free pancakes to eat.
"People come from everywhere for Pancake Days. People who were born and raised here always come back. It's a homecoming," Bieber said.
For the residents and the thousands of volunteers who helped made this day possible it's the feeling of family and unity that makes this day so special.
"It unites us and it's something we are proud of," Bieber said.
The 65th annual Pancake Days Festival will be on the last Saturday in September 2013.
