KIRKSVILLE, MO -- More than 200 Heartland residents got a chance Tuesday to understand more about the much-debated federal health care law.
The Northeast Missouri Rural Health Network and Missouri Foundation for Health put together two free presentations on the impact of the Affordable Care Act on Missouri.
M.F.H.'S Director of Health Policy, Ryan Barker, provided a break down of the main components of the ACA and how it will affect the Show Me State in the long run in terms of individuals, families, businesses and the health care system in areas such as Medicare and Medicaid.
Barker hopes that people who attended now have a better understanding of the law.
"I hope when people come here they take away a few things on what this law means and how it impacts them. That's what we want to get out of it. What are the facts of how their healthcare will be impacted," Barker said.
About 230 people attended the two sessions today.
Barker says he believes the Supreme Court decision on the Affordable Care Act earlier this year and the fact that this is an election year have brought more attention to the law.
