OTTUMWA, IOWA -- The Remembering Our Fallen exhibit traveling around the state of Iowa made its way to Ottumwa High School this week.

The exhibit was previously on display at Van Buren High School in Keosauqua for the 11th anniversary of 9/11.

Remembering Our Fallen displays pictures of the Iowa soldiers who have fallen in battle. OHS held an opening ceremony Tuesday morning with a roll call of fallen soldiers, and a moving speech by Mary Ellen Winston, the mother of Ottumwa High graduate and fallen sergeant, Joseph Hamski.

Ottumwa High School staff said the exhibit is important because the service of our soldiers both demands and deserves respect.

"As you can see just in the mood of the service today, people really do want to remember and it really does mean a lot to them and we've all been affected and impacted by the conflict, so I think it really is our job to remember," said Mark Hanson, Ottumwa High School Principal.

The exhibit is open for anyone to view during school hours until September 24 in the library.
