FAIRFIELD, IOWA -- The Fairfield square was swarming with kids on Saturday for the annual Kiwanis Kids’ Day.

Among other things, there was a parade that highlighted various businesses and services in the community.

Kiwanis is a service agency made up of volunteers that serve and promote the community.

Kids’ Day is one of the two big projects the agency has each year.

The day was financed with the sale of pancakes starting at 6 Saturday morning.

“So it’s been going for 46 years now and I’ve been a Kiwanis member for nearly that length of time, maybe I was 46 years. It's getting difficult to count all those years because it's an enjoyable experience. I arose this morning at 3 to get down here around 3:30, quarter till 4, and start mixing batter and doing all those things necessary, heating the grill, etc. to get ready for the crowd that comes at 6,” said St. Rep. Curt Hanson.

Other kids’ activities included a petting zoo and a pedal pull.
