The statue, which was damaged in a severe thunderstorm in June, has been touring Wapello County throughout the past few weeks, and will continue to do so before heading off to Omaha.

The cost of repairing the statue, $22,900.

“Shortly after the Oktoberfest Parade, the statue will be going to Omaha and they will work on repairing it. Hopefully we will have him back in late winter, early spring. We will be putting him on display tentatively at the courthouse, but after that, he will go back on the roof for hopefully another 100 years,” said Wapello County Supervisor Steve Siegel.

The historic statue will be making appearances in Blakesburg, The American Gothic House Center and at events held by the Cardinal Community School District.

Supervisor Siegel asks that if anyone would like to have the statue appear at his or her community event, to contact Supervisor Jerry Parker.

You can contact the Wapello County Board of Supervisors at 641-683-4630.
