KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- A local economic development group welcomes a new member.

The Kirksville R-3 School District recently joined Kirksville Regional Economic Development, Incorporated (K-REDI).

Assistant Superintendent Jane Schaper represented the school district at K-REDI's monthly board meeting Tuesday.

The school board voted to pay $5,000 annually in dues to have a voting position on the K-REDI Board after hearing a presentation from a K-REDI representative.

"We are approximately the 6th, I think maybe 7th, largest employer in this community so it's very appropriate, I think, that we are a part of this organization," said Schaper.

At Tuesday's meeting, K-REDI Director of Economic Development Carolyn Chrisman told the board she is working on two leads for potential new businesses in Kirksville.

Chrisman told KTVO she can't release any further details about those leads at this time.

Also, the head of K-REDI's Website Committee gave an update on the revamping of the group's website.

Larry Byars said the new-and-improved K-REDI website should be ready to make its debut in about a month or so.
