KIRKSVILLE, MO -- For another week, gas prices are up across the Heartland and the nation.

Across Missouri, prices have risen 3.2 cents per gallon, averaging $3.70.

Iowa prices rose significantly over the last week, just over seven cents. This brings the average in Iowa to $3.81.

This all compares to the national average that has gone up significantly less at only 1.3 cents. The national average stands at $3.81.

Officials at GasBuddy.com say to hang in there, relief should be coming soon.

“September 15th is when we start to transition from summer gasoline back to cheaper winter gasoline so we should start noticing a little bit lower prices come shortly there after. Maybe third week into September we should notice a little bit lower prices. A lot of that will depend on what oil prices are doing as well. We also see a drop in gasoline demand after Labor Day. That’s when the driving season is over. Everybody is basically done with their vacations and kids are back in school. Those two tings, a drop in demand and a switch to winter gas should help us see some relief at the pump,” GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan said.

DeHaan also says that even with Hurricane Isaac long gone, the oil industry is still bringing capacity back online which is keeping pressure on prices. As facilities get back to 100% production, this should also slowly bring prices down.
