FAIRFIELD, IOWA -- The City of Fairfield is one step closer to becoming a Blue Zones Community.

On Thursday, the city and other community leaders met with the committee in charge of selecting the Blue Zone sites.

According to Fairfield's Mayor, the meeting was over three hours and consisted of great dialogue.

"We had a group of about 45 representatives from around the community yesterday that engaged in this dialogue with team members. It was very energetic and exciting. There was a lot of good back and forth. We felt very good about it and it reinvigorated the communities initial interest in becoming a Blue Zone," said Mayor Ed Malloy.

The committee still has a few more small cities to visit throughout Iowa. The City of Fairfield should know if they were selected in about three weeks.
