KIRKSVILLE, MO -- The Adair County Extension Council honored two Heartland families.

During its annual dinner Tuesday evening, the council presented Joe and Linda Decker of Kirksville with this year's Missouri Century Farm award.

The Deckers said they are happy that Joe’s family had the foresight and strength to acquire the land more than 100 years ago.

“I think that we are just thrilled that we realize and recognize that that was a commitment that his family started, and that's something we want to continue and instill in our children,” Linda Decker said.

The Deckers said they have lived at the farm since they bought it in 1981 and hope one day that one of their children will live there as well.

The council also recognized Danny and Dana Amidei and family.

The Danny and Dana Amidei family of Novinger was selected as this year's “Adair County Missouri State Fair Farm Family.”

“It’s really surreal you know we just worked on the farm for years it’s just what we do and to be recognized that's just quite an honor,” Dana Amidei said.

Amidei said this is their last year to exhibit cattle, which they've done for 17 years, but they will still continue to raise cattle.
