OTTUMWA, IOWA -- The Ottumwa City Council will be a holding a public hearing Monday evening at 6:30 to consider the plans and specifications for improvements at Ottumwa Regional Airport.

The plan is to build a new three-stall airplane hangar to service the aviation operation.

The estimated cost is around $177,000. If additional funds are available, there will be options for more hangars.

About 80 percent of the project is being funded by grants.

“It’s very nice when the city can work with state and federal authorities to secure these kinds of grant funds which fund a majority of our improvement projects at the airport,” said Tom Rodgers, Ottumwa Public Information Officer.

Rodgers said there is a growing need for this type of aviation infrastructure. He added that he hasn’t heard of anyone that wasn’t in support of the plan.
