LA PLATA, MO -- The rain has become a damper on one popular Heartland Labor Day weekend event.
The 60th Annual La Plata Soybean Festival is taking place throughout the long holiday weekend.
KTVO was there Saturday afternoon as heavy rainfall took over the downtown square causing carnival rides to come to a halt and people to head indoors to stay dry.
The Little Mr. and Miss and Queen Contest were moved indoors to La Plata High School Saturday evening.
Organizers are hoping that things will turn around for the better.
"I am the eternal optimist. We will have a good turnout at some point. Hopefully everyone will show up on Monday and make up for all the bad weather," said Soybean Festival Committee Vice President Sally Moore.
The committee has decided to move the Church In The Park event for Sunday to the Christian Church at 11a.m.
The Truck and Tractor Pull for Sunday has been cancelled.
Carnival rides will be opened Sunday from 1-5 p.m. and 6-10 p.m.
The Pet Show and the Chicken BBQ lunch have been moved to Monday's events.
