The group wants to make sure by 2014 the Missouri Nondiscrimination act is on the ballot.

They want the state of Missouri to legalize same sex marriage and ban discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.

“Missouri’s a state that you can still be fired for being gay at your job,“ Wyatt said. “You can be kicked out of your house if you’re renting for being gay, so these are thing we want to make sure we can address.”

Wyatt said they’re not asking for more privilege (for the LGBT community), but providing them with the same protection that a lot of people already have when they’re in the workforce or in their homes.

In order to get this on the ballot the campaign needs 200,000 signatures for the nondiscrimination initiative, and about 350,000 for the marriage equality amendment.

Wyatt said education is key.

“A lot of people say well you’re a Republican you shouldn’t be supporting things like this, or you’re a gay Republican, and the Republican party doesn’t support you,” said Wyatt. “The numbers are showing quite extensively the younger population within the Republican Party are overwhelmingly supporting marriage equality and making sure that people aren’t discriminated on the bases of their sexual orientation. Numbers talk. And, I can tell you by 2014, we’ll have more support.”
