KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Local schools have been opening over the past week.
Thursday, the spotlight was on Truman State University as students began a brand-new school year.
Around 6,000 students and 1,500 new students kicked of the 2012-2013 school year as classes officially got underway at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.
For the president of the school, this is one of his favorite days of the year, as he really enjoys the atmosphere and energy around campus.
"The great thing about my office is I get to look out over the campus and see the students moving around- classes to classes, building to building ,so that energy and excitement just motivates all of us," said Dr. Troy Paino.
Several events over the next few weeks will help kick off the new school year, including the football home opener and the barbeque September 8 and Family Day on September 15.
