KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Kirksville residents got the chance to get rid of leftover hazardous waste.
The City of Kirksville held a Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Saturday morning at the Public Works Complex.
People just simply drove up and dropped off materials they don't know how to dispose of properly.
Some of the items included aerosols, antifreeze, batteries, cleaners, paints, oils, light bulbs, insecticides, and pesticides.
The city is doing this to help keep these hazardous materials from being put into the water supply and the environment.
"As we get ready to make those last clean out of garages and basements before the winter, go ahead and get those household hazardous waste products out here and we will take care of them," said Kirksville Public Works Director John Buckwalter.
The materials collected today will be disposed by a professional disposable company the city hired.
If you weren't able to make it to Saturday's collection, there is three more coming up on August 25th and September 8th and 22nd. The city is accepting drop off appointments for those dates. Citizens can call Kirksville Public Works at (660) 627-1291 to schedule an appointment.
