OTTUMWA, IOWA (AP) -- Authorities say two Missouri residents have died after a semi-trailer rammed a car on U.S. Highway 63 in southeast Iowa.

The Iowa State Patrol says the crash occurred a little before 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, just north of Ottumwa.

Troopers say the semi ran into the rear of the car, which was going slower than the posted limit because it had mechanical problems.

The dead passengers were identified as 47-year-old Tony Penberthy, of St. Louis, and 44-year-old Charles Haffer Jr., of St. Peters, Mo.

Fifty-year-old Robert Lindsey, of O'Fallon, Mo., was driving the car. He was taken to an Ottumwa hospital. Truck driver Steven Searls, of Auburndale, Fla., wasn't injured.

The crash is being investigated.
