KIRKSVILLE, MO -- A Kirksville church turned a small weekly event into a super-sized affair outside of the Hy-Vee in Kirksville Saturday.

The mission was to “Fill the Ford.”

Members of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Kirksville were outside the grocery store collecting food for the Christian Community Food Bank.

The church does a weekly food collection, but a suggestion from a member of the congregation led to the idea of filling a truck with food.

Organizers told KTVO that people really pitched-in and filled up the vehicle.

“It is a great idea and it’s going to be great for the community. You know there is a lot of people in need in this county and hide it really, but this is terrific,” said Rev. Johnnette Shane of the Trinity Episcopal Church.

Shane told KTVO that she was surprised by the amount of support they have received since this is the first year they have held this fundraiser.
