GREEN CITY, MO -- Meet 14-year-old Natalie Ayers of Green City. Agriculture has played a major role her whole life. She is a third generation farmer and helps her family with their cattle business. But when she got involved in 4-H, she decided to take on a different interest and began showing and taking care of pigs.

“When I was smaller, I liked pigs. I just didn’t think showing cattle was right for me," Ayers said. "It feels a little different since my family was used to showing cattle. We have learned a lot from me being the first one to start us off doing that.”

Natalie is a member of the Green City 4-H Workers. She has competed and showed her hogs at the NEMO, Sullivan County and the Missouri State Fairs and has won awards such as Champion and Showmanship. But there is a lot of responsibility and patience behind all that recognition to prepare.

“You have to feed them and water them everyday just like you would do with any livestock. You have to look into the future and realize that if you are patient with them now, you’ll be able to work with them in the future and get along fine," Ayers said.

Natalie said the best part of working with her pigs is meeting new people and making friends along the way.

“I just love and enjoy showing pigs and meeting new people and seeing my friends at the shows," Ayers said.

Natalie is planning keep agriculture in her life as it has helped shaped her into the farm girl she is today.

“I’ll always be involved with agriculture just because I was born and raised on a farm. I enjoy it and it’s what I’ve done my whole life," Ayers said.

Along with caring for her pigs, Natalie also likes to ride horses. She's also on her school's basketball, track, and dance teams. She is also part of student council and band. She will be joining the Green City FFA in the fall.

She is planning to attend to the University of Missouri and wants to become a pharmacist.
