OTTUMWA,IOWA -- It’s hard to believe in this 100 degree heat but the Ottumwa Chamber of Commerce is already working on the 2012 season of Nights N’ Lights.
One of the projects the Chamber is working on right now if the 35-foot tree in the Greater Ottumwa Park, one of the highlights of the festive drive-thru light show.
Around five years ago the Chamber paid to have the light strings refurbished on the tree but they’ve had some issues with the light bulbs falling off.
“We just spent $2,300 and had custom made light strands all made -- got a whole group that will be refurbished -- 58 strands, 58 35 foot strands of Christmas tree lights, and we'll be doing that over the next month when it’s warm,” said Terry McNitt, Ottumwa Chamber of Commerce Executive Director.
McNitt said there will be some nice surprises for everyone to look forward to. The setting up of Nights N’ Lights will begin in early November.
Thousands of people come through the exhibit each year.
