OTTUMWA, IOWA -- An Ottumwa man is jailed and charged with attempted murder.

According to a press release, Ottumwa Police responded to a disturbance call Sunday night at a residence located at 219 North Marion Street in Ottumwa. When officers arrived, they located three victims suffering from injuries sustained as a result of being struck with a hatchet.

One victim refused treatment, a second victim was transported to Ottumwa Regional Health Center with moderate injuries, and a third victim was transported to University Hospital and Clinics in critical condition.

The names of the victims are not being released at this time and no other details are available at this time.

The suspect, Charles Julian Jason Zwer, 26, of Ottumwa, was taken into custody a short time later. It’s believed he lived at the residence where the attack took place.

He’s been charged with attempted murder and is currently being held in the Wapello County jail on $25,000 bond. According to police, more charges are pending.
