OTTUMWA AND IOWA CITY, IOWA -- University of Iowa Health Care Thursday announced that it is transitioning the management and ownership of its clinic in Ottumwa, Iowa to Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

In announcing this change, Dr. Rami Boutros, executive medical director for off-site clinics, stated, “This was a very difficult decision, given our 15-year history in the community. However, we believe that this transition makes sense, and will enhance coordination of care for cancer patients.”

Ottumwa Regional Health Center operates the McCreery Cancer Center, which provides radiation oncology services. Phil Dionne, Chief Executive Officer of Ottumwa Regional Health Center, said, “We are very enthusiastic about this transition because it will bring together the full range of treatment options for cancer patients. Our staff works very well together and we are looking forward to continuing to build our cancer center capabilities for the community.”

“We believe that this transition supports our regional hospital’s role in delivering high quality, community-based health care and specialty services. This has been a great, mutually beneficial relationship. We look forward to continuing to work with the University as we go forward,” Dionne continued.

Boutros also stated, “We have truly valued and appreciated the opportunity to serve the people of Ottumwa and the surrounding area. We are confident that this new arrangement will continue to assure local access to high quality cancer care for years to come.”

The transition is expected to be completed by September 1. UI Health Care has also announced the planned transition of two other off-site clinics in Lowden and Belle Plaine, along with the closure of a fourth.
