KIRKSVILLE, MO -- For Wednesday's Facebook Story of The Day, many of you wanted to know more about Computer Vision Syndrome.

Professionals at International Eyecare Center in Kirksville told us that computer vision syndrome is a temporary disorder you get from being too close to a computer screen and using it for a long period of time.

The main symptoms of C.V.S. are headaches and blurred vision.

Ophthalmologists say there are steps you can take to help reduce your chances of getting the disorder.

"Changing your workspace is a good idea. Make sure your computer is directly in front of you and have the screen at or slightly below eye level so you don't have to be tilting your head or turning your body to the computer screen. Make sure you are using the right lighting and reduce the glare that comes on the computer screen from overhead lights and outside sources such as windows," said Mindy Blackford, O.D. at International Eyecare Center.

Dr. Blackford also suggests taking it easy and trying to keep good posture while sitting.

"Just make sure you are limiting your time. Make sure you take breaks every half hour if you are going to be using it for a long period of time to help your eyes readjust. Use the proper posture protocol for everything," Dr. Blackford said.
