CENTERVILLE -- Appanoose County will be getting a facelift in the next couple of years.
The Iowa State University Center for Industrial Research and Service (CIRUS) will be working with non-profit groups within the county for the next year and a half.
A sustainability summit was conducted last week by the group to discuss improvement on the county’s overall economic development.
The group reported back this week that they are confident progress can be made.
“One of the things that Iowa State really wants to do is help facilitate but not necessarily dictate. So what they really want to do is get this group of folks together from within our county to determine what we feel as a county, along with some guidance from Iowa State, they can give some ideas,” said Tod Faris, Appanoose County Economic Development Corporation.
Faris said he sees this as an excellent opportunity for both the students at ISU and the non-profit groups. The students will be getting real-life hands-on experience and the non-profit groups will be getting assistance on their projects.
On August 9, members of CIRUS will be back to meet individually with the non-profit groups.
