MACON, MO -- We're going to turn now to a friendly competition that's for a good cause.
The Macon Police and Fire Department hosted their 4th annual Battle of Blood - Blood Drive.
Last year, 28,000 individuals in the area needed a blood transfusion, and this year the local needs for blood are expected to rise.
The goal for Friday's blood drive is to receive 45 units of blood.
For the community, this is just a nice way to support your local emergency personnel while saving a life.
"It's a chance for everyone to come and give so many times," said Josh Boveri, Macon Fire Department. "We're short and in need of blood and people come out and it just helps the community and everybody that might be in need."
As for the competition part of the blood drive, the fire department has won every year and because, both departments shares a building the trophy is always on display.
