Five suspects arrested in Mahaska County accused of making meth

OSKALOOSA, IOWA -- On Thursday afternoon, The Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office informed KTVO that five suspects were taken into custody as the result of an on-going investigation.

According to the sheriff’s office, three search warrants were executed on Tuesday, July 3rd.

The warrants were executed at 2377 Pilgrim Path and 525 Cherry Street in Barnes City. In addition, a warrant was executed on a farm south of Barnes City.

The sheriff’s office says that law enforcement discovered a meth lab, precursors to manufacture methamphetamine and over 5 grams of methamphetamine. Also seized during the investigation were numerous marijuana plants, four vehicles and currency.

The suspects arrested in the case are Warren Frits, 47, of Oskaloosa. Frits is charged with conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine.

Brent Smith, 39, of New Sharon. Smith is charged with conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine.

Norman Walker, 48, of West Chester. Walker is charged with conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine and possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine.

David Sanders, 59, of Barnes City. Sanders is charged with conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine, manufacture of marijuana and fail to affix drug tax stamp.

The Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office tells KTVO that the investigation is still on-going.

Assisting in the operation with the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office was the Oskaloosa Police Department, The Mahaska County Drug Task Force, The Southeast Iowa Drug Task Force, The Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement and the Iowa State Patrol.
