OTTUMWA, IOWA -- The weather on Monday was extremely hot, but ice cream and brownies brought people out of their homes and outside to Central Park in Ottumwa for a special Declaration of Independence reading.

Senator Mark Chelgren and Bridge View Executive Director were among the 13 chosen.

Numerous people came to the event dressed in patriotic colors and to show their community spirit.

This is the 10th year the Wapello County Republican Party has put this event on.

The chair of the Ottumwa Republic Party Trudy Caviness said the event brings in around 100 people each year.
