Members of the Troy Mills School pose for a picture
ADAIR COUNTY, MISSOURI -- Former teachers and students recaptured old memories and caught up with each other after some have gone more than 30 years without seeing one another.
Alumni and friends of Troy Mills School and community had a reunion Saturday at Thousand Hills Park.
The Troy Mills School house was located South and West of Kirksville and served as the educational, social, political, and cultural center of the community.
The school was consolidated with the Kirksville R-3 school district in 1964.
Saturday, more than 70 people gathered and took part in old Troy Mills School traditions and had the opportunity to catch up with one another.
"Well, seeing the people. I just talked to one of my good friends who I haven't seen for 35 years," said Larry Evans, an organizer of the event. "We have people from surrounding states, Florida, Virginia, so it's just about getting together and getting to see people that we used to be very close to in school."
During student, teacher introductions, the oldest member in audience was honored as he was part of the 1927-1928 class.
Also, a $15, 100 page book, researched and compiled about the school and the community with photographs dating back to 1905 is also available.
For information on how to get a copy of the book contact Larry Evans at 660-341-4872 or 665-3985.
