Friday afternoon's crash happened at the north junction in La Plata, Mo.
LA PLATA, MO. -- A two-vehicle collision Friday afternoon sent both drivers to the hospital with injuries.
It happened at 3:18 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Highway 63 at the north junction in La Plata.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said a pickup driven by Daniel Larsen, 50, of Kirksville and an SUV driven by Donna Kelly, 73, of La Plata collided.
The truck ended up in the median.
The SUV came to rest in a ditch on the side of the highway.
Investigators said Kelly was attempting to cross Highway 63 and pulled into the path of Larsen's pickup.
Larsen received serious injuries, and Kelly received moderate injuries.
Both were taken by ambulance to Northeast Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Emergency crews had to cut off the driver's side door of Kelly’s SUV to free her from the vehicle.
Neither driver had any passengers.
One of the two northbound lanes remained open so traffic could keep moving past the crash site.
