KIRKSVILLE,MO -- The Department of Natural Resources (Solid Waste management Program and the Scrap Tier Surface Material Grant) partnered with the Kirksville R-III Schools (Primary School) through a recycling tire grant to purchased playground tiles for the primary building.

The grant focused on student, teacher, parent, and community awareness about recycling and the recycling of tires, and on playground safety. The students now have a safer fall zone when playing of the climbing equipment and slides and students with disabilities can access the play area.

This project recycled 5,890 passenger tires or 29,450 pounds of 100% Missouri tires. Recycling is essential to our environment and continuing to have safe natural places for recreation.
