OTTUMWA, IOWA -- For Tuesday’s Facebook Story of the Day, Facebook users wanted to know how to report those potholes we all have unexpectedly come across on the roads.

It’s as simple as picking up the phone and calling the Public Works Department. From there, you will put in a Citizen’s Request and it will then be given to the Public Works Superintendent.

“And we go look at them, priority-wise. If something's going to break a tire then we'll do it right away but otherwise we try to do areas at one time.  And so we're not running around town and wasting time driving back and forth,” said Steve Edgington, Ottumwa Public Works Superintendent.

Because of the warm winter Iowa had, potholes haven’t been as big of a problem as years past.

81 tons of injection patching for fixing potholes were laid during the month of May. Although this number seems high, it is fairly normal for this time of the year.

Edgington said when the number gets to 120 tons in one month is when you know there’s a lot of potholes.
