KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- The Missouri Department of Conservation hosts a celebration to honor the five-year anniversary of its Northeast Regional Office Building in Kirksville.
The celebration began Saturday morning and ended around noon. There were plenty of free, family-friendly activities including fishing, archery, and the nature entertainment group, "Wild Heart".
Conservation Education Consultant Karen Armstrong said this is only the beginning of what the Northeast Regional Office has in store for the community.
"We are a work in progress," said Armstrong. Every year, we add more animal mounts here to our office, and we continue to work on the nature landscaping that we have here outside around our office...improvements to the trail. That's what's in store for the next five years."
The department is also hosting free-fishing weekend June 9-10. Everyone is free to fish without a permit during this time. However, Armstrong warns that the department's regulations are still in effect regarding the size and number of fish a person can catch.
