KIRKSVILLE, MO -- A project started back in 2009, may finally pay dividends to Adair County in the coming weeks.
The county is trying to attract a company using the Enhanced Enterprise Zone.
The zone is an economic development tool that offers businesses and industries incentives like tax breaks if they locate in those communities.
The Enhance Enterprise Zone in Adair County requires the county to bring in manufacturing jobs, and although the county just recently missed out on a company, there's optimism about future jobs coming into the area.
"I thought I had one that was going to locate, but it ended up failing through," said Carolyn Chrisman, Director of Economic Development. "We have another one in the hopper, that we hope to hear about in the next week or two that we've located here, and the advanced enterprise zone is what's going to make the difference."
Chrisman says they lost out on the last company due to travel logistics, but she puts the percentage of likelihood that this new business could come in at around 70-80%.
