DES MOINES, IOWA -- Iowa Gov. Terry E. Branstad wants you to help him reform the state's education system.

Branstad, Lt. Gov.  Kim Reynolds and University of Northern Iowa President Ben Allen today announced they are seeking applications for members of the advisory councils of the six newly established regional STEM network hubs.

The six regional network hubs are the first major initiative of the new Governor’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Advisory Council, a public-private partnership, whose overarching goal is to boost student achievement in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education and promote STEM economic development.

“The STEM boards and hubs will localize the efforts of the Governor’s STEM Advisory Council,” said Reynolds, co-chair of the Governor’s STEM Advisory Council, along with Allen. “The advisory boards will serve a prominent role in creating a community focused on science, technology, engineering and math. Each board brings a unique and specific role to the state STEM initiative and helps the Advisory Council move Iowa toward a world-class education.”

The Governor’s Office is seeking a variety of applicants including, but not limited to, the follow areas:

• Area Education Agency
• Business/industry
• Community College
• County extension and outreach
• Economic development/Chamber of Commerce
• K-12 student/parent
• Library
• Local government
• Nonprofit/informal learning centers
• Private college/university
• Public college/university
• Regional workforce development
• School board member
• STEM teacher – public/private school

The six regional boards are in congruence with the signing of Senate File 2321, Section 12. Members will serve at the pleasure of the governor. Each board will have a maximum of 15 members.
